Mari Rose Movement

Mariana Rose is a mother, dance artist, choreographer, and teacher.  She brings to her work decades of experience studying with renowned teachers from Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, West Africa, and the United States, and 15+ years teaching dance with both children and adults. Mari is one of a handful of certified instructors of the uniquely holistic dancer training method, Silvestre Technique. Silvestre is rooted in ballet, informed by an Afro-Brazilian animistic worldview, and inspired by the movements of nature. Mari's teaching is additionally supported by indepth study in Somatics, Pilates, Ballet, Haitian Folkloric, Persian, Cuban Modern, and Afro Brazilian Popular, Folkloric, and Modern traditions. She has performed with Rosangela Silvestre, Vera Passos, Ballet Afsaneh and Alayo Dance Companies. She is a current company member with Rejoice! Diaspora Dance Theater in Portland, OR.
Mari has found her gift in creating a safe and exciting space for students to encounter their expressive essence. Her classes and camps are a meaningful experience in connection; within one's self, together in community, and as a part of the natural world. She has found her purpose in engaging movers of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels; lovingly guiding them to embodied movement.

Along with her husband and daughters, Mari tends 8 acres of sacred land in occupied Chinook territory, where hundred year old cedars circle a peaceful bend of Beaver Creek. Together they are working daily to cultivate a place for gathering, expression, ecological harmony, reparations, and cross cultural bridge building.

She creates a nurturing environment that invites students to dig deeply and inquisitively into their practice. She seamlessly infuses technique into creative choreography while encouraging self expression, discovery, and spontaneity. Her deep respect for her teachers, her students, and her collaborators is apparent in all her creations."
